“I don’t make New Year’s resolutions or set goals. My morning routine keeps me on track” ~ Terry Thompson ~ Do you struggle every year with making New Year’s resolutions? Do you struggle with setting goals? I used to as well. Until I discovered a method that actually works. A morning routine is much more relevant than resolutions or goal setting. Don’t fall for the group think mindset. Avoid engaging in resolution or goal setting conversations. The reason a morning routine is more vital to your success is that goals have not happened yet. They are things you are hoping for, you are wishing for, or you are striving for. Habits that are a part of a morning routine are already defined. In other words, they are already a part of your every day life you are taking intentional action on. That is why I say “I … Continue reading →
Next to influence, the most important thing that you want to accomplish as a leader is that you have a strong, positive impact on not only the lives of those you lead, but an impact in everything that goes on around you and your organization. When you have established yourself as a leader within your family, team, company, organization, and so forth the impact that you have will often times mean the difference between success and failure. The idea is to give as much of yourself that you possibly can to the coaching, teaching, training, development, and so forth so that everyone under your influence is prepared to take action and make a positive difference in somebody else’s life when they get the opportunity. When you see a little of you in all that is around you that is when you know you will have made a positive impact. *NOTE* … Continue reading →
The most important factor that you have as a leader is your influence. Without it, you will not be able to accomplish anything. No matter how hard you try, if you do not have a solid influence on others, they will not do anything you wish them to. People may do what they are have to just because of the position, title, or rank that you hold but I guarantee they will not want to do anything just because of those same reasons . You have to have the ability to make people want to do things versus have to do them. This is all encompassed within your influence that you have over people. Your influence is built off many things to include, but not limited to: your reputation, your ability to help others, your knowledge, your experience, the trust that others have in you, the way you treat others, … Continue reading →
To me leadership is all about INFLUENCE and IMPACT I have been a Leader for over 23 years serving in many junior and senior level leadership positions of increased authority and responsibility. I have led teams as small as 3 people to much larger groups that included over 200. I have often been asked what are my thoughts about leadership. When I think about leadership there are many things that come to mind, but only two stand out among the rest and they are INFLUENCE and IMPACT. If your INFLUENCE is not making an IMPACT then you need to re-evaluate, re-design, and re-engage your leadership tactics, techniques, and procedures. Once you are back on track you will see the difference your INFLUENCE has on others and the IMPACT that it can make in the lives of those you lead. I hope by reading this book, you will gain valuable knowledge … Continue reading →
Groupthink can be compared to a barrel of monkeys fighting for the same banana. The goal is to get the banana, each monkey knows it, and is compacted into a minimalistic mode of thinking to fight for the same object no matter the consequences. Whereas if they all just escaped the barrel, they would realize there are more bananas outside the barrel. With this analogy, it can be proven that groups are often narrow-minded to what is only true within their individual scope of understanding; completely disregarding any outside possibilities. It is truly this limiting factor that leads to little or no alternatives within the group.
